Hand Grinding and Polishing
HAND GRINDING
Hand grinders or angle grinders are essential for concrete edge work, countertops and small area floor repairs where larger machines can’t reach. Achieving a smooth, uniform finish along edges is important, as these areas must seamlessly blend with the main floor surface in both appearance and gloss level.
Concrete edge grinding typically follows a multi-step process similar to main floor grinding, but requires more precision and control due to the limited working area and increased risk of gouging or uneven removal. Operators must carefully manage tool pressure, speed, and movement to inconsistent scratch patterns.
Superabrasive offers a full range of specialized tools designed to improve efficiency and consistency in edge work. These include aggressive ceramic turbo cups for fast material removal, flexible electroplated pads, copper and resin-bond polishing pads for refining and achieving a high-quality finish. Flexible pad designs allow better surface contact, especially on slightly uneven edges or decorative profiles, ensuring a more uniform result.
Using the correct grit sequence allows contractors to gradually refine the surface, minimize visible scratches, and match the finish of the surrounding floor. With the proper system in place, contractors can achieve better production rates and a seamless transition between edges and the main floor.
