Concrete Grinding
Concrete grinding is usually done with metal bond diamond tools. In most cases, you would start with 30 or 70 grit to open up the concrete and gradually refine it. You may need to make several passes before switching to a finer grit tool. Make sure you overlap each pass to ensure even grinding, and clean the floor between steps.
Grinding Tips:
- Choose the right bond for each concrete floor – the Moh’s scratch test can help you determine concrete hardness.
- Using hard bond tools on hard concrete can cause diamond glazing – the tools don’t cut well and just slide on the floor surface. Adding water can help, as well as removing weights, and slowing down the rpms. In many cases, it is best to switch to a softer bond tool.
- Using soft bond tools on soft concrete often leads to premature tool wear, because soft concrete is very abrasive. Switching to harder bond will improve tool life.
