Metal Bond Tools
Quick Change Metal Bond Tools
Metal Bond Diamond Tools are used for concrete grinding and are made with a different bond hardness for different types of concrete – soft, medium, hard, extra hard and super hard. Using the wrong bond can cause diamond glazing, premature wear or deep scratches.
- Choose the right bond, based on the concrete hardness for each specific job. The Mohs Scratch Test kit can help determine the hardness of the concrete.
- Choose between one or two segments, depending on the grinder weight – use single button / bar tools with grinders 25″ and smaller, and double button / bar tools with grinders 30″ and larger. TIP: Fewer segments cut faster, but also wear out faster. More segments create more surface contact, allowing for surface refinement with less scratches.
- We recommend using metals with LOW RPM, and for optimal tool life, use 6 tools per head on 13″ heads.
- Grit range: 14, 30, 50, 70, 120. To expose medium to large aggregate, you can start with 30 grit metals. For small to medium aggregate start with 70 grit metals. For salt and pepper – 120 grit metals.
PCD Tools
PCD Diamond Tools for Coating Removal
PCD stands for Polycrystalline Diamond. We offer PCDs with or without sacrificial bars and metal button with different level of aggressiveness.
PCD WITHOUT Sacrificial Bars or Metal Bond Button are very aggressive and will leave a very coarse profile on the concrete underneath. They are suitable for removal of thick mastics and glues, elastomeric membranes, thick parking deck membranes, 30 mils and up epoxy coatings, and any coating with silica sand broadcast mixed in.
PCD WITH Sacrificial Bars or Metal Bond Button are less aggressive so they do not damage the concrete. The sacrificial bars or the metal button act as a stabilizer and depth guide, and reduce the gauging of the floor caused by the aggressive pcd segments. These tools are suitable for removal of medium to thin mastics or glues, and failing epoxy coatings (30 mils or less).
PCDs are direction specific tools – use the BLACK PCD tools for Electric grinders with the exception of 32″ Elite models, and the BLUE PCD tools for Propane grinders and 32″ electric Elite models.
Recommended RPMs – 550-650 rpm for electric machines, 1800-2100 rpm for propane machines.
